Joel Dumba Chrispo Dumba comes from the Republic of South Sudan, which received its independence on 9 July 2011 following a 21-year civil war. He is married to Maria Chrispo and has two sons (David who is 14 and Daniel who is 12 years). Mr. Dumba is a MA student in the Social and Comparative Analysis in Education Program in the School of Education's Department of Administrative and Policy Studies.
Mr. Dumba obtained a BA from Uganda Christian University in Mukono, Uganda where he majored in Social Work and Social Administration. He has worked with a number of public, bi-lateral, and multilateral organizations in areas of HIV prevention, care and treatment, impact mitigation, HIV Counseling and testing, and policy development endeavors. Some of the organizations Mr. Dumba has worked with include the South Sudan AIDS Commission, UNAIDS, UNDP, UNICEF, UNHCR, UNFPA, The World Bank, Intern-Governmental Authority on Drought and Development (IGAD), Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Gender and Social Development. His major teaching interests and experience are in the areas of HIV and AIDS in the education context, research methods, policy analysis, program evaluation, international development, social work and social administration of multicultural education, research ethics, and organizational leadership and strategy. He looks forward to furthering his expertise from others as far as international organizations and development education is concerned. Mr. Dumba will current research endeavors at the University of Pittsburgh on HIV/AIDS-related topics to improve the service delivery for his newly-independent country.
