Duration: April 2003-September 2004
The purpose of this project was to strengthen the competence and skills of senior management staff and to translate the mission of Moi University in Kenya into intangible and beneficial outcomes (i.e., development of more innovative management teams, great diversification and transparency of financial resources, and inclusion of more women in management).
The joint project team conducted a 2-day workshop in strategic planning at Moi University for senior management, deans, department chairs, unit directors, and administrative staff. The University of Pittsburgh Team provide consultation on the draft of a 10-year institutional strategic plan and were resource persons for a 2-day seminar on the plan held at Moi University that included senior management, administrative staff, the Chancellor, members of Council, and representatives of the Ministry of Education.
The technical assistance team for this project included three educational specialists from the School of Education: Dr. John C. Weidman, Dr. Macrina C. Lelei and Dr. John L. Yeager.
• The draft Moi University institutional strategic plan was revised on the basis of comments received during this seminar as well as subsequent deliberations on campus after the University of Pittsburgh Team’s departure.
• Several higher education management journals were shipped to Thatcher Library, thus making Moi University the only university in the East African region to have these materials.
• The partners agreed to explore the development of both short training and a degree course at the master degree level in higher education management.
