Diplomacy Lab Project Title: From Research to Revenue: US Best Practices in Connecting Educational Institutions with the Market

Background: Greek’s national universities have both talent and Times rankings.  Recent funding problems have encouraged them to develop alternative funding streams that support both students and research. The University of Pittsburgh is well positioned to address this topic in cooperation with Greek partners.

Pittsburgh, PA became internationally famous for its regional revitalization efforts after the collapse of its steel industry in the mid-1980s. This effort rested primarily on the continuing success of its two major research universities, the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. Both have a broad repertoire of world-class research in health, robotics, artificial intelligence, etc. Their entrepreneurial efforts have led to job opportunities for students, and research opportunities for faculty.

IISE has a rich, interdisciplinary community of experts to draw on, including economics/management of education faculty, senior university administrators, and students.

Structure: IISE will form a small, multi-disciplinary research working group of interested students and faculty.

Products: An e-library of annotated links that describe innovation and entrepreneurial efforts at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt), Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and their interactions with the Pittsburgh region.

A small collection of marketing materials created by Pitt, CMU and their partnerships with the Pittsburgh region.
