In his book, Dr. Cai explores the relationship between university students' legal education courses and their civic consciousness. The publication was a continuance of his dissertation research, which models an in-depth study of structures, contents and teaching approaches of legal education courses or classes. One of his key findings substantiates the importance of the legal education in China for the cultivation of civic awareness over a long period of time.
