Joyce Nerea Mutsoli

Joyce Nerea Mutsoli is from Kenya. She is currently the Visiting Scholar program coordinator at the Institute for International Studies in Education at the University of Pittsburgh. Previously, she served as a high school TESOL teacher and a Fulbright Language and Teaching Assistant at the University of Pittsburgh where she taught Swahili and shared her culture with the students besides doing outreach programs in various schools around the Pittsburgh area. She holds a master’s degree in Administrative and Policy Studies with an emphasis in Social and Comparative Analysis in Education. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Education Policy with a concentration in Comparative and International Education. She has interests in policy changes that affect curriculum changes in schools in Africa specifically Kenya which is currently incepting a new curriculum (Competency-Based Curriculum) that has caused various educational changes as well as the interplay of teacher cognition of their culture, values, and beliefs in the teaching of English as a second/foreign language in Africa.
