Werner Schönig

  • Visiting Scholar, Catholic University Cologne – 2018

Dr. Werner Schönig is a Professor for Social Economics and Social Work Concepts at the Katho-University (Catholic University of Applied Sciences NRW) in Cologne, Germany. His faculty counterpart at IISE is Prof. Maureen Porter Ph.D.

Fields of research and teaching include social policy and the system of social security, social-economic segregation in the social space, social networks and analysis in urban settings, poverty in developed welfare states, community organizing, and institutional cooperation as much as competition in social services.

His current project on “Typologies and classifications in social work and social policy” is about the ambivalence of approaches to the order of social issues in social policy and social work. These typologies and classifications have advantages but also risks and in any case, raise normative questions.
