Weiyan Xiong received his Ph.D. in Higher Education Management from the University of Pittsburgh. His research interests include indigenous higher education; comparative, international and development education; internationalization of higher education; professional development at higher education institutions.
Xiong has served as the co-investigator of several research projects at the University of Pittsburgh Institute for International Studies in Education (IISE), such as “Ethnic Minority Trends in Chinese Higher Education Project,” “Global Trends in Higher Education Financing” (Sponsored by Lumina Foundation), “World Council of Comparative Education Societies Archive Project,” “Best Practices of Professional Development Centers at World-Class Universities,” and the “Study of Global Comparative and International Education Pioneers, Leaders and Programs.” He has co-published several journal articles on professional development at world-class universities, Asia-Pacific higher education, and ethnic minority higher education in China.
From 2013 to 2017, Xiong served as a Program Coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh IISE. He also used to work as a Visiting Student Researcher at the UC Berkeley Myers Center for Research on Native American Issues, a Research Assistant at the Center for International Higher Education of Peking University, and a Student Assistant at Peking University Education Foundation, and Student Financial Assistance Center. Xiong completed his bachelor’s degree in International Political Economy at the School of International Studies and his master’s degree in Higher Education at the Graduate School of Education at Peking University.
