Mission and Goals

Vision Statement

IISE strives to be the most dynamic and productive institute in comparative, international, and development education (CIDE). We will occupy a unique space in higher education by focusing on applied research, presentations, and publications in the space where human capital, assessments of student learning outcomes, and career and financial models of higher education converge. Accordingly, we propose to actively seek grant-funded research to engage faculty and graduate students, and to form an international advisory board to help develop and support our initiatives. We will make every effort to improve and enhance education systems everywhere in the world.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Institute for International Studies in Education (IISE) is to serve as the premier university-research, technical assistance, and training institute in comparative, international, and development education. IISE accomplishes its mission by faculty, staff, students, alumni, and affiliated-constituencies engaged in research, training, consultancies, partnerships, service, policy making, teaching, and other forms of practice in local, regional, national, and international contexts.

IISE Goals

IISE’s distinguished history and experienced faculty provide a strong foundation on which further steps can be taken to achieve its mission. The Institute accomplishes its mission by building upon the strong foundation of its strengths and focusing its strategic activities toward the achievement of four major goals:

Goal 1:   to serve as a premier research, planning, monitoring, curriculum development, and performance measurement hub for career and professional educational programs in cross-cultural and international contexts;

Goal 2:   to offer capacity building expertise and assistance for educational agencies, community colleges and university career programs, and other multisectoral programs, and higher education institutions, with a long-term goal toward sustainable improvement of human capital;

Goal 3:   to help develop global orientation and international understandings among faculty, staff, alumni, and other constituencies of the School of Education; and

Goal 4:   to facilitate institutional linkages, growth of international student enrollment in our graduate programs, and global learning opportunities for faculty and staff, as well as visiting scholar and other exchange programs on an international level.
