Informative Library System Introduction Seminar Held by ISPN

On Friday, October 7, 2022, co-sponsored by Student and Career Services (SCS), the ISPN held a library system information seminar. It was indeed an honor that the school’s open-education librarian, Marian Hampton, agreed to lead a presentation on useful resources in the university library system. During the seminar she shared powerful tools and tricks to support students’ academic success, such as how to find university-owned articles on Google Scholar. In addition, she thoughtfully gifted pocket notebooks to all members present.

There were 17 attendees, including masters, doctoral students, visiting scholars, and Assistant Director of SCS, Amy Ireland. Everyone really appreciated the opportunity to learn a great deal about the ins and outs of the school library system, especially how to locate resources shared amongst institutions. Members engaged in meaningful interaction with Marian, asking her questions on how to better navigate scholarly web-bases and find resource citations, and she answered all inquiries, providing students with great feedback. As Marian concluded her presentation, she provided contact information and invited anyone with questions to reach out.

Pleased with the turnout of this seminar, the ISPN looks forward to getting together again next month! The ISPN encourages members to bring forward any lingering questions and hopes to see everyone at their next session on October 21st for a coffee break&book club where they will be sharing insightful thoughts about the book “Caste” and other recent readings.
